The School Improvement Plan (SIP) for Milngavie Primary School, led by Head Teacher Garry Graham, outlines a strategic three-year roadmap with a heavy emphasis on wellbeing, inclusion, and curriculum evolution.

The following review details the core components of the plan based on:

  1. Core Priorities and Strategic Outlook
The plan identifies two primary areas of focus for the 2026/27 session, which are designed to evolve over a three-year period:
    •    Priority 1: Wellbeing & Inclusion: This remains a consistent priority for all three years (2026–2029).
    •    Priority 2: Pedagogy & Meta-Skills: Transitioning into specific curriculum implementation and pedagogy focus in subsequent years.
  2. Priority 1: Wellbeing & Inclusion
This section is highly detailed and focuses on fostering a culture of respect and proactive anti-prejudice education.
    •    Key Frameworks: The school plans to use the "Mirrors and Windows" framework to ensure classroom resources reflect diverse identities (mirrors) while allowing students to explore other cultures (windows).
    •    Anti-Prejudice Education: There is a structured approach to identifying and reporting prejudice using Allport’s Scale and the Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) resources.
    •    Digital Citizenship: For upper primary (P6–P7), the TIE Digital Discourse Initiative will be implemented to help pupils counter online hate and misinformation.
    •    Reporting and Safety: The plan introduces the "5Ds of Bystander Intervention" (Delay, Delegate, Document, Distract, Direct) and the PEACE framework to empower pupils and prevent radicalisation.
  3. Priority 2: Pedagogy & Meta-Skills
The focus here is on the transition toward a new curriculum framework and improving achievement in literacy and numeracy.
    •    "Know-Do-Understand" (KDU) Model: The school is moving away from traditional "Experiences and Outcomes" to the KDU model, which emphasises conceptual understanding.
    •    Decluttering the Curriculum: A major objective is to audit the current curriculum to remove duplication and focus on logical progression.
    •    Cluster Collaboration: A cluster-wide in-service day is planned for October 2026 to establish a shared language and plan for adopting the Curriculum Improvement Cycle.
    •    Implementation Timeline: Professional learning and "Curriculum Making" networks will run through Terms 3 and 4 of 2027, preparing for the formal adoption of the new curriculum in August 2028.
  4. Equity and Resource Allocation (PEF)
The school has fully allocated its £25,725 Pupil Equity Funding (PEF) for the 2026/27 session. Notable allocations include:
    •    The Circle: A significant portion of the budget is dedicated to improving the learning environment linked to "The Circle," with an additional £1,000 for its ongoing development.
    •    Wellbeing Interventions: Funds are set aside for external support such as Emotion Works (£1,700), Clare McRobbie (£700), and Tree of Life (£400).
    •    Other Supports: Allocation for technologies (£1,951), support/challenge resources (£5,050), and costs for the school day (£2,000).
  5. Evaluation.
    •    Monitoring: Progress will be tracked via termly updates, pre- and post-intervention surveys, and Audits will be undertaken throughout the session to assess progress. This will be recorded on our self-evaluation platform, iAbacus)
